YouTube Hit with Elon Musk Bitcoin Scam
YouTube channels hacked to display bitcoin scams
Livestreams feature AI-generated Elon Musk speech
YouTube has been hit by a wave of bitcoin scams, with scammers hijacking three YouTube channels to display bitcoin scams impersonating Elon Musk's SpaceX channel. In some cases, scammers have hijacked legitimate YouTube live streams of SpaceX launches overlaying graphics about a Bitcoin giveaway.
The scam livestreams feature an AI-generated Elon Musk speech that promises viewers free bitcoin if they send money to a specified bitcoin address. The QR code for the bitcoin address remained on the screen for the entirety of the livestream.
YouTube has since taken down the hacked channels, but the scam livestreams are still circulating on the platform. Users are advised to be cautious of any YouTube livestreams that promise free bitcoin or other cryptocurrency.
